Our editorial mission
CrawlSpaceGuide publishes independent cost research and guidance for homeowners navigating crawl space encapsulation. Our editorial goal is to give homeowners accurate, sourced information they can use to make decisions - including the decision not to hire a contractor, or to get a second opinion on one they've already spoken to.
We do not accept payment for favorable editorial coverage. Contractor relationships, affiliate commissions, and lead referral revenue do not influence what we write or recommend.
How we research cost data
All cost figures published on CrawlSpaceGuide are derived from named, dated sources. We do not fabricate ranges or extrapolate without basis. Primary sources include:
- Angi (formerly Angie's List) annual cost reports
- HomeAdvisor True Cost Guide, aggregated homeowner-reported costs
- Groundworks and Basement Systems published pricing documentation
- RS Means labor cost indexes by market
- Direct conversations with encapsulation contractors across the Southeast US
We publish cost ranges, not single numbers. This reflects real-world variability in contractor pricing, local labor markets, and project conditions. When a source gives a single figure, we note that and contextualize it within the broader range.
Cost data is reviewed and updated at minimum annually. The review date is noted on each cost guide. We update sooner when market conditions change materially.
Author credentials and expertise
Content on CrawlSpaceGuide is written and edited by Aleksi Suoninen, a researcher and aggregator - not a licensed contractor, mold inspector, building scientist, or structural engineer.
We do not claim expertise we don't have. Pages covering topics that require professional credentials - mold identification, structural assessment, radon measurement, electrical work - explicitly state that professional evaluation is required and that our guidance is informational, not a substitute for licensed professional assessment.
We do not use anonymous author bylines, AI-generated content without editorial review, or content purchased from content mills.
Schema and structured data standards
We implement JSON-LD schema markup on all pages. We adhere strictly to the following rules:
- We do not use
AggregateRatingorReviewschema unless reviews are genuine, verified submissions from real users. - We do not fabricate expert quotes or attribute statements to unnamed "experts."
HowToschema steps reflect the actual content of the guide, not a summary added solely for rich result eligibility.FAQPagequestions and answers match the content visible on the page.
Affiliate and commercial relationships
CrawlSpaceGuide participates in the Amazon Associates program and may earn commissions on qualifying purchases. Affiliate links are used only for products we believe are genuinely appropriate for the described use case. We do not add affiliate links to products we wouldn't otherwise recommend, and affiliate status does not determine product recommendations.
We route contractor leads commercially and receive referral fees. This is disclosed on the methodology page and the about page. Lead routing logic is based on geographic coverage and contractor capacity, not on which contractor pays us the most.
Corrections policy
When we publish incorrect cost data, factual errors, or outdated information, we correct it promptly and note the correction at the bottom of the affected page. We do not silently edit errors without acknowledgment.
To report an error: hello@crawlspaceguide.com with the page URL and the specific claim you believe is incorrect. Include a source if you have one. We review all correction requests and respond within 5 business days.
AI content policy
Some content on CrawlSpaceGuide is drafted with AI assistance and edited by Aleksi Suoninen. All published content is reviewed for factual accuracy, source alignment, and editorial tone before publication. AI-generated drafts are not published without human review. We do not publish AI-generated cost data, statistics, or expert claims without verifying them against named sources.
